Our Story
In June 2008 Matt Harvey and Michelle Wildsmith, colleagues from Murdoch University, began to investigate ways of integrating their specialised areas of research in order to fill a niche in the marine ecological consulting arena. Their study areas were focussed on marine benthic habitat mapping, remote data collection and benthic community dynamics, with each of these areas strongly underpinned by their respective backgrounds in marine and estuarine ecology, biostatistics and computer programming.
In combining these skills they saw a unique opportunity to provide science-focused solutions to current problems faced by environmental managers from both government and commercial sectors in Western Australia. They began trading as Ocean Vision Environmental Research in January 2009, establishing offices and laboratories within the Aquaculture Development Unit of the Challenger Institute of Technology on Victoria Quay in Fremantle, WA.
